Why Fullerton Homeowners Choose GAF Construction

We provide independent GAF in Fullerton construction and roofing service, from Timberline HDZ shingle repairs on mid-century ranch homes to complete tear-offs and single-ply installations. Our GAF work is built on hands-on system knowledge: ventilation balancing, nailing patterns, and layering that holds up to Santa Ana wind events and inland sun. We are not a GAF authorized contractor, and we don’t claim to be. We’re an independent roofing contractor in Fullerton who has spent years learning exactly how GAF materials behave on the specific housing stock this city throws at them. Call (866) 253-8554 for a free estimate on any GAF repair, replacement, or installation.

Most Fullerton roofs are not new construction. They’re 1950s and 1960s tract homes with undersized soffit venting, or pre-war bungalows with low-pitch porch roofs that were never meant to carry modern architectural shingles. That’s where brand-specific knowledge stops being marketing and starts being the difference between a repair that holds and one that fails again next wind season.

Why Trust Elmwood Contractors for Your GAF Construction?

Nolan Shepherd, our owner, grew up in Fullerton’s Sunny Hills neighborhood, where half the houses on his street were built in the late ’60s. By the time he was a teenager, he already knew which ones were going to have foundation problems. He studied construction technology at Fullerton College and spent his twenties doing ground-up residential and light commercial work across North Orange County before running Elmwood Contractors for the past two decades. That background matters when we’re on a Fullerton roof: we know the framing, the ventilation, and the failure patterns that come with the territory.

When it comes to GAF specifically, our team works with the product lines every day. We know how Timberline HDZ shingles seal and where they fail when they’re nailed high through the seal strip. We know what a Liberty SBS membrane does on a low-slope deck when it’s installed correctly, and what happens when someone skips the underlayment build-up. We use genuine GAF shingles and accessories so the system layers, seal strips, and warranty envelope stay coherent. And we’re honest about when a repair is the right call versus when a roof has reached the end of its life.

The right material in the right place. Everything else is just catching up to that decision.

Common GAF Construction Problems We Fix in Fullerton

  • Wind-lifted and creased Timberline HDZ courses on low-pitch porch and patio roofs. Fullerton has a lot of 1950s and 1960s ranch homes with porch roofs pitched below 4:12. GAF shingles on those slopes need double layering or underlayment build-up, and when they don’t get it, Santa Ana gusts lift and crease the courses. We see this constantly, and the fix is specific: correct the layering, replace the damaged courses, and re-seal.
  • Premature seal-strip failure and tab cracking on south- and west-facing slopes. This is one of the most common issues on Fullerton’s older ranch homes. Undersized soffit or ridge venting traps heat in the attic, the shingle surface temperature climbs, and the seal strip fails early. The tabs crack, then lift. A new shingle field won’t fix it if the ventilation problem stays. We address both.
  • Leaks traced to GAF ridge vent and Cobra attic vent products without matching intake ventilation. A ridge vent needs intake air to move. When it’s installed on a Fullerton home with no soffit vents or undersized intake, the vent pulls hot air in from the house instead of exhausting attic heat. Shingles age faster on the sunny slopes, and the leaks that follow are always blamed on the shingle, not the vent. We check the whole system.
  • Nail placement errors on Timberline shingles. High nails or overdriven nails through the seal strip void GAF wind coverage. After a Santa Ana wind event, those shingles lift at the tabs. It’s a fast diagnosis when you know what you’re looking at, and the fix is replacing the affected courses with matching GAF shingles and nailing them correctly.
  • Flashing and drip-edge failure where GAF shingles meet aging original flashing. On Fullerton homes with original galvanized flashing at chimneys, skylights, and valleys, the flashing gives out long before the shingle field does. We get more repair calls for flashing failures than for shingle failures. The shingles are usually fine. The metal isn’t.

GAF Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

We stock common GAF shingle colors and accessories locally for faster turnarounds on Fullerton repairs. We use genuine GAF shingles and accessories rather than generic aftermarket equivalents because the system layers, seal strips, and warranty envelope need to stay coherent. When you patch a Timberline roof with a different manufacturer’s shingle, the seal strip chemistry doesn’t match, the color shifts, and the warranty envelope breaks.

Repair versus replace is a judgment call, and we make it honestly. A localized wind or flashing failure on an otherwise sound Timberline roof is a repair. A 20-plus-year-old shingle field with widespread granule loss and tab cracking is better replaced than repeatedly patched. We’ll tell you which one you’re looking at. Call (866) 253-8554 and we’ll put eyes on the roof and give you a straight answer.

Our GAF Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Diagnosis on the roof. We inspect the shingle field, the underlayment, the flashing points, and the ventilation system. On a GAF roof, we check nailing patterns, seal strips, and whether the ridge vent has matching intake. Most repair calls in Fullerton are not shingle failures. They’re flashing, ventilation, or installation failures that happen to show up as leaks.
  2. 2
Repair or install with GAF-spec detailing. We replace damaged courses with matching GAF shingles, correct the nailing, and re-seal ridge vents and intake. On full replacements, we follow the layering and ventilation details that GAF’s system requires, not the shortcut that gets the job done faster.
  3. 3
System test before we leave. We run water where water runs, check the seal strips after the sun’s been on them, and confirm the ventilation is moving air. On a Fullerton summer afternoon, that check matters.
  4. 4
Workmanship warranty on our labor. We stand behind our installation. The GAF material warranty is between you and GAF. Our workmanship warranty covers what we did.

GAF Products We Service & Install in Fullerton

We install and service the GAF repair in La Habra product lines that make sense for Fullerton’s housing stock and climate: Timberline HDZ (now HDZ U.S. and Timberline UHDZ) architectural shingles, Timberline Natural Shadow architectural shingles, GAF Liberty SBS self-adhered low-slope membrane for low-pitch porch and patio roofs, and GAF EverGuard TPO single-ply membrane for flat and low-slope commercial-style decks. We also handle tile roof repair on Fullerton’s older homes, where the tile itself meets GAF underlayment and flashing systems. We stock common Timberline colors and accessories locally, which keeps repair turnarounds short.

We Also Service These Brands

GAF is one of the roofing systems we work with, not the only one. Across a full home project, we also install and service KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone countertops, and Kohler plumbing fixtures. We’s a single-source general contractor, so when your Fullerton project touches the roof and the kitchen and the windows, you’re not coordinating three crews and three sets of excuses.
